10 Proven Actions to Overcome Self-Doubt and Achieve Success

“Believe it and you can achieve it”. We’ve all heard it, seen it in others, but why it is so hard to believe in ourselves.

I remember a scene from the film “Pretty Woman” when Julia Roberts replies to Richard Gere “The bad stuff is easier to believe. Have you ever noticed that?” Her answer struck a chord with me and I still struggle to find my self-worth to this day.

Why this is true and more importantly what can we do about it?

In her fascinating TED TALK, ” Getting stuck in the negatives”, Alison Ledgerwood demonstrates her results from a series of experiments that prove what we already instinctively knew. It’s easier to believe the negative stuff.

That’s not the end of the story. She explains further, it does take work to think more positively and it is possible to train yourself to be more positive and build your self-esteem.

Here are my top 10 proven actions that have helped me through some bad times into the more positive and productive periods in my life.

1. Every time you have a bad day. Ask yourself “What was good about today?” You always get out of life what you focus on most. If your focus is negative you’ll just get more of what you don’t want but if you break the pattern with a single question and make an effort to focus on what you do want, then you are more likely to achieve it.

2. Set small achievable goals for yourself but make sure you complete them! Inch by inch you will start to feel that you are more capable with each accomplishment.

3. Set out to improve every aspect of your life by just 1%. Think about it. 1 % improvement in each area of your life, each day, builds up your motivation, momentum and your achievements which automatically help you believe in yourself.

4. Take Time Out. When you get stuck. STOP! Break the routine! Walk the dog! Go dancing! Out with friends! Sailing. Whatever you enjoy doing the most, relaxes you and puts a smile on your face. For me it’s saddling up my horses and hitting the trail! I learnt a valuable lesson from a wonderful boss I had many years ago. He used to laugh at me when I would stubbornly stay all night trying to solve a problem at work. He always told me to stop, go home and get a good night’s sleep. Inevitably the next morning, I would find the solution within the first 5 minutes of starting work. Solving a problem quickly gives you more self-confidence and it sure beats struggling on when you’re tired and telling yourself what a “waste of space” you are.

5. Eat that Frog! Mark Twain once wrote “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you for the rest of the day” Brian Tracey used the quote as the title of his book for combatting procrastination. The idea is, when you look at your to do list, what is the one task that you least want to do. Do it first and get it out of the way, after, you will feel pumped up and more relaxed. Your productivity will sky rocket for the rest of the day as will your self-esteem.

6. Tell your inner self to “SHUT UP!” In his highly entertaining motivational talks Les Brown, hilariously explains that you would never treat others the way we treat ourselves. When that little voice starts nagging you about how useless you are. Tell it to shut up! It’s not what’s happening around you that prevent you achieving your goals. They are just hurdles you can go over, under or around. It’s our self-defeating inner voice playing on our emotions that holds us back. Give yourself a break.

7. Help other people. There are very few things in life that give you such an instant boost of self-worth than helping someone else. I thrive on helping others especially when I’m feeling depressed it’s an instant reversal to the slippery slope of depression.

8. Recognise your skills. List all the skills you are great at. Can’t think of anything. Ask your friends and family. What is it about you that everyone likes and admires? If your life is just an endless list of mistakes well maybe your worth is as the crash dummy of life. Half the battle in life is avoiding the pitfalls, and if you can help others in that respect then your contribution is invaluable.

9. Face your Fear. My favorite quote on this subject is from Oprah Winfrey “The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free” In my opinion and through personal experience, facing your fear head on will only make you stronger. Last year was the hardest year of my life. My beautiful 4 yr. old son was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive form of Leukemia. BUT despite the pain, despair, fears of losing him and loneliness at being separated from my other son and my family. I got up every morning to go and sit by his bedside from dawn to midnight. It was hard, very hard but he is on the road to recovery now and both of us have come out of the experience so much stronger and less fearful than before. Do not let fear hold you back. You have so much to offer the world.

10. Do something you believe in. A sense of purpose is one of the most powerful ways to feel fulfilled. When you know why you are doing something. The drive and motivation just flow without effort.

The most important message I want you to learn is keep moving forward. “When you rest you rust” No matter what happens to you in life don’t give up. Let go of the past, stop fighting it. It’s like hitting your head against a brick wall, only you get hurt. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Forgive those who have hurt you. May be you should thank them for they have made you more aware and stronger.

Get off the “Pity Potty”. Dust off your dreams and start living your life. Don’t let anything or anyone stop you. It will not be easy; if it was easy then everybody would be doing it. Success will be all the sweeter, having worked hard and overcome all the obstacles.

It took the horror of my son Leukemia to snap me out of my “I’m not worthy” mindset. Since then I have started a new online business, which allows me precious time to be with my children and animals, financial freedom to buy a new home and I can help other people realize their dreams.

What’s your dream?

Find Out How Successful People Think So You May Be Successful Too

Do you think successful people are just plain lucky?

Successful people did not become successful because they were lucky.

They did not achieve success by accident. Being at the right place at the right time, meeting relevant people, reading the appropriate book, did not come about accidentally or by luck.

Luck is brought about by Labour Under Correct Knowledge.

Successful people prepared themselves. Instead of giving up on anything they started and wanted to achieve they got stronger by learning more.

Success is a methodical, orderly and deliberate process of deciding what you want to do with your life, what are the steps that you need to undertake to get you there, and lastly what you will do once you get there.

One of the most important aspects, if not the most important aspect to success, is the ability to visualise your successful outcome and stay focused on it until you achieve it.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge, knowledge is limited.” - Albert Einstein

Successful people understood the potential power behind knowledge, yet they also understood that, for them to close the gap between where they are and where they wanted to be, they would have to piece together the enigma that is most often referred to as “life”.

They had to build a picture, a vision, of success in their mind, and then go about taking action on creating that envisioned life.

In much the same way, you have to be serious about your present and future, you need to have the knowledge that is required so you, too, may close the gap: you need to be and remain determined to devote yourself to taking massive action to build your business of succeeding in life.

You, too, will need to see the end, your dream and destiny that you desire in your mind’s eye. It is up to you to take the necessary and relevant action to make it all happen. It’s just like going to the doctor with a particular health problem.

The doctor may prescribe a medication for you to take four times a day, yet he cannot be there with you to ensure that you are taking the medication.

It comes back to deciding to be responsible for your life.

Have you noticed how it all stems from that one attitude? Being responsible for your own life.

Your success, your being responsible 100% for you to live your dream life starts here.

When you accept 100% responsibility for yourself and your current life situation, you will have the power to move towards those things you truly desire in life: which is success in all areas of your life.

This life-changing article is about possibilities and opportunities, knowledge and tools. It will help expose your unique course in life.

It will inspire, support and motivate you to excel, to do what successful people do, to have all that successful people have, and to become a shining example of a successful person.

Here, you’re not being told what you couldn’t do, instead you are being told to shoot for the stars. And above all, you are being shown how to shoot for those stars.

“A person is what he thinks about all day long.” - Emerson

Interesting thought, wouldn’t you think? So much so, it’s worth repeating: “A person is what he thinks about all day long.”

Success and happiness cannot happen if you possess the same old thoughts and beliefs.

If you do not change your mind, if you do not get rid of the unsupportive thoughts and beliefs, you will inevitably remain stuck in your old ways. Not much, if anything, will change.

Let’s give you a quick overview on how change comes about:

Your BEHAVIOUR, how you act (or perhaps do not act), controls your success or failure. Your ability to attain high levels of success is dependent upon your actions and behaviours. Your results are the outcome of your behaviour. Now let’s consider where your behaviours come from and what controls them?

Your FEELINGS command your behaviour. Every action that you take is first filtered through your feelings that reside in your subconscious mind. How you feel about something determines what you do and how well you do it. So where do your feelings come from?

Your ATTITUDES create and influence your feelings. Your attitude is your perspective from which you view life. Whatever attitude you have about anything will affect how you feel, which, in turn, affects how you act. Where do your attitudes come from?

Your BELIEFS create, control and influence your attitudes. What you believe about anything will determine your attitude about it, which will create your feelings, and then which will direct your behaviour and action. Belief patterns are so powerful that two people who are in the same situation could perceive things completely differently. It only requires us to believe what we see and how we see it. We all have thousands of beliefs - big and small. And where do your beliefs come from?

Your THOUGHTS create, control and influence your beliefs. Your thoughts are real and are immensely powerful. Everything you accept from the outside world and everything you feed yourself from within is a product of your thoughts. Everything starts as a thought.

So, it goes without saying you need to learn to control your thoughts. And when you do, you will automatically control your beliefs, your attitudes, your feelings and, consequently, your behaviour and actions.

The big secret to success:

Learn to control your thoughts and you will influence your behaviours and actions. It’s all a mind-set. That’s what we’ve been saying all along.

Success is predictable and is not achieved by accident.

Have the mind-set of the successful people and you will achieve success. Believe and it is yours!

“There is a great future in front of you, you can leave your past behind.” - Joel Osteen

Science of success experts have concluded that the brain is a goal-setting organism.

That is fantastic news for us: for whatever goal we give to our subconscious mind, it will work for us day and night, 24/7, to achieve it for us; to make it a reality.

The principal breakthrough that scientists made was that we do not need to waste our precious time and effort trying to change old thoughts and behaviours: we just simply create new ones.

And the other discovery they made was that we can continue to create new thoughts, new memories, new behaviours, new skills, and learn new things for as long as we are alive on this earth.

Now, with the new discoveries in recent years, it has been scientifically proven that our capacity to achieve and succeed literally has no limits.

Our brain has the capacity to continually learn during our entire lifetime.

Our brain can form new thoughts, can have new memories, and can learn new things by the millions, no matter what your age is. By the millions.

That’s how many new things we can learn, that’s how many new skills we can learn, that’s how many new thoughts we can have, that’s how many new behaviours we can adopt.

This is encouraging because there is no limit on your capacity to achieve new things.

No limits whatsoever for the human brain to learn, memorise, develop, achieve and perform at higher levels than ever imagined. It makes no difference what your age is: you are capable of learning anything new that you want to learn.

That adds to what we spoke of earlier: no more excuses.

“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.” - Malcolm X

Your brain has the capacity to achieve way beyond what was ever thought possible. So now is the time to break out of your limited thinking and start dreaming big and imagining unlimited possibilities.

Becoming successful is not impossible.

It is a choice you make through a decision. Every day, step-by-step, you may climb the mountain of success if you’ve decided to do so, if you’re committed to accomplish what the others think impossible.

Design your future now.

Prepare to receive what you desire.

Thanks to the phenomenal advances made in cognitive science and the development of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), personal change, personal transformation, has come a very long way.

In fact, personal growth is no longer a mystery.

NLP has brought to light that change, transformation and growth can be fast, reliable, and even fun. It has shown us that we do not need to spend thousands of hours slaving away to increase our creative-thinking abilities.

By practicing a few simple exercises and applications, you can start your creative juices flowing, and you may even amaze yourself at the quality and quantity of good ideas that you can come up with to expedite your success.

It can allow you to achieve something you seek within days and months as opposed to years and decades. That’s the power of the progress science has made on how the brain works, and also how you can have your mind to be your best ally in achieving anything you want.

Learn to live as you like by no longer living as you dislike.

Are you ready to get on the road to success and fulfilment?

Bear in mind, much like everything else in life, success requires practice and massive, consistent action.

“Success doesn’t mean the absence of failures; it means the attainment of ultimate objectives. It means winning the war, not every battle.” - Edwin C Bliss

However, this should not, and cannot justify, the utter - disregard of some, in terms of respecting the greater good, and abiding by basic, common sense, public health, protective measures! How did this become another, political issue, with so many, apparently putting their personal/ political interests and agenda, first? How many more must get infected, hospitalized, put others, at - risk, and/ or die? Many seniors have lost their battle, as have the immune - compromised, and we still do not know all the potential longer - term ramifications and impacts! Everyone is tired of this, and would like, a return to normal, but, the efforts of a minority, harms our overall efforts, and the potential to optimize our efforts! With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly examine and review this, and why, we must do better.

1) Conspiracy theories: For some reasons, some prefer to believe unfounded, opinions, and accept them, instead of facts. It began with denials, transformed to accusations, and created harmful resistance. Is there anyone, who has not witnessed or experienced the loss of someone close? While, everyone is entitled to an opinion of their own, they are not, to their own set of facts. It is one thing if your actions only harmed you, but quite - another, when it puts others,at - risk!

2) Politics: Why has this become political, like so many, apparently, common sense, issues, have? There is a huge difference between a viable solution, and well - considered, plan, as opposed to blaming and complaining, denials, and stubbornness!

3) Data and science matter: Mike Bloomberg likes to say, “In God We Trust. All others, bring data,.” History shows, it takes a science - based, plan, endorsed and supported by public health, medical, and scientific personnel and experts, to create a meaningful, fact - based, efforts.

4) Mandate resistance: Although we have seen public health mandates, in the past, it seems we are experiencing the most polarized nation, in recent memory! Just because one doesn’t agree, does not mean, he knows more than the experts!

Either, we proceed, in a more unified manner, or we prolong the horrors. Wake up, America, before many others, lose this battle! It’s up to, each of us!

Bring Home Your Vacation for Year-Round Stress Relief

Vacations do have to end but you can bring their stress relief back with you in a variety of ways. If you do, you will be able to easily recall your relaxing vacation feelings. Then, when you are stressed, you can get some much-needed stress relief.

While you are on vacation, spend some time relaxing in a calm and tranquil place. This can be an immediate source of stress relief, but it can also be used as a source of rapid relief when you return to home and work.

Here are four ways to capture your vacation relaxation and bring it home with you for year-round stress relief:

While you are relaxing in that serene place, repeat a cue word such as “beach” or “sunset” or “relax.” Let the word echo and reverberate in the back of your mind. Allow it to become associated and connected with your deep state of relaxation. When you return from your vacation, use your cue word whenever you want to enjoy an “instant replay” of your relaxing experience.

Take a photograph where you are relaxing on vacation. You can use your cell phone or a camera, but you also can intentionally take a picture in your mind’s eye. Focus on the scene and soak it in. When you return from your vacation, put the picture you took onto your computer and mobile devices for easy retrieval wherever you want to relax and whenever you are under stress. If you are want to get to sleep, use the picture you stored in your mind’s eye to calm your mind and relax your body.

While you are relaxing in that special place on vacation, take note of the sounds around you or record them on your cell phone. When you return home, download the recording or similar sounds from the internet onto your computer and mobile devices for easy retrieval whenever you want some soundtrack stress relief. The soundtrack can also be used to help you fall asleep faster.

When you return home, combine all three of the sensory experiences you stored by saying the cue word, visualizing the scene or looking at the picture, and listening to the sounds in your mind or from a recording. Some people find it more effective to combine the cue word with just the picture or just the soundtrack. If you don’t have the photo or you don’t have a recording available, just combine what you have with your cue word.

How to Gain Happiness-Peace of Mind

Peace of mind is all about happiness. Usually, we start searching for peace of mind when 50-60% of our life is completed, but I feel one must understand the meaning of happiness at a very early age to gain peace of mind. First, every person needs to focus on reducing the unnecessary needs in their life and try to be happy with whatever one has. Parents are the key players in this effort to make children understand how to be happy rather than helping them in getting unnecessary needs. Based on my experience I have seen such parents where they have very little money but still to fulfill the unnecessary needs of children, they take out loans to make their children happy. The more wants that are fulfilled, the more the expectation of children. Further failing to fulfill the needs of these children leads to frustration, and they start losing happiness as happiness does not live in all those needs. One person losing happiness impacts multiple people, maybe parents, family, friends, relatives, etc. By now you understand where the foundation of happiness starts from. The approach of happiness is applicable to all kinds of people, whether they belong to low, middle, or upper class. You may be wondering why I have been explaining about happiness to start understanding at a young age and the reason is as the age of a person increases the capability of a person to understand the meaning of happiness is not that easy. You usually might have noticed people start joining yoga, meditation, and gym classes after they get married or when they start working. People at middle age who try to attain peace of mind by doing yoga and meditation gives them temporary peace of mind as it has not been developed within themselves at early age as it is hard to digest peace of mind later consistently.

The above is a glimpse of what and how we lose peace of mind and why.

Now let me explain how one can gain happiness and peace at a very early age with less effort. Make children adopt more natural things rather than artificial things, as natural things are free of cost and long lasting. Examples would be, going to temple, gardening, reading the library, taking them with you for a morning walk, so that they can feel the fresh natural air rather than artificial things built at home. If they wish to have ice cream or any other outside stuff, see, if possible, that can be homemade or bring them home and enjoy it in the home with the family which will give them more happiness and help them stay connected. Spend money on games, clothes, shows, movies but try to keep them within limits. Travel once every 3 months for a short time to different places. I know it’s easy to say but hard to comply, but if at least 60% of such things are done then yoga and meditation is attained within themselves till long age. Even at any point of time if they lose happiness/peace the foundation will help them to gain it back.

To conclude there are many ways to attain happiness/peace but actually we need to develop this within ourselves and not by any course

The Four Rules of Eating

  1. Eating only when there is hunger: There are two kinds of hunger; we have the normal and abnormal hunger. The normal hunger was given to us by nature to make us active enough to get food. Normal hunger asks for food, but no special kind of food. It is satisfied with anything that is clean and nourishing. It is strong enough to make a decided demand for food, but if there is no food to be had it will be satisfied for the time being with a glass of water and will cause no great inconvenience. Abnormal hunger is different entirely. It is a very insistent craving for food and if it is not satisfied it produces bodily discomfort such as a headache. The erode remains and gives the sufferer no rest. Very often it must be pampered. It calls for some special kind of food, and if not satisfied the results may be nervousness, weakness or a headache etc.

When missing a meal brings discomfort, this is always a sign of a degenerating or degenerated body. A healthy person can go a day without food and without any inconvenience. He feels a great desire for food at meal times, but as soon as he is has made up his mind that he is unable to get it or that he is not going to take any, the hunger leaves. Normal hunger is a servant. Abnormal hunger is a hard master.

  1. To live on water during acute illness or to fast: This rule is contrary to the teachings of medical men. They teach that when people are ill there is much waste, which is true, and that for this reason, it is necessary to partake of a generous amount of nourishing food, so they give milk, broth, meat, etc., together with stimulants. Feeding during illness would be all right if the body could take care of the food, which it cannot. In all severe diseases, digestion is almost or quite at a standstill and the food given under the circumstances decomposes in the alimentary tract and furnishes additional poison for the system to excrete. And food under the circumstances is harm and a burden to the body.

In fevers, the temperature goes up after feeding. This shows that more poison has entered the blood. In fevers, little or none of the digestive fluids are secreted, but the alimentary tract is so warm that the food decomposes quickly. Feeding during acute attacks of disease is one of the most serious and fatal errors. There is an aversion to food, which is nature’s request that none should be taken.

Chronic disease is often due to neglected acute disease, at other times to the building of abnormality through errors of life which have not resulted in acute troubles. While acquiring the chronic disease, the individual may be fairly comfortable, but he is never up to equality. Most chronic diseases can be cured quickly by taking a fast, but usually, it is not necessary to take a complete fast. The desire for food is not generally absent and there is usually fair power to digest. One of the most satisfactory methods, if not the most satisfactory one, of treating chronic disease is to reduce the food intake, and instead of giving so much of the concentrated basic feed more of the succulent vegetables and the fresh fruits, cooked and raw using but small quantities of meat, bread, potatoes and sugar. This will give the body a chance to throw off impurities. There are always many impurities in a crazed (deranged) body.

  1. To moderate in eating: Simplicity is a great aid to moderation. It is necessary to exercise the conservative measure of self-control. By exercising self-control, sickness will be warded off. By using willpower daily it grows stronger and those who force themselves to be moderate at first, are in time rewarded by having moderation become their second nature. People should always stop eating before they are full. Those who eat until they are uncomfortable are gluttons. And they should be classed with drunkards and drug addicts. If discomfort follows after a meal, it is a sign of overeating.
  1. Masticating food thoroughly: Foods have to be finely divided and sub-divided or they cannot be thoroughly acted upon by the digestive juices. The stomach is well muscled and churns the food about, helping to grind it, but it cannot take the place of the teeth. All foods should be thoroughly masticated. While the mastication is going on the saliva becomes mixed with the food. In the saliva is the ptyalin, which begins to digest the starch. The starch that is well masticated is not so liable to ferment as that which gets hastily attention in the mouth. Starches and nuts need the most thorough mastication. If thorough mastication were the rule, meat gluttons would be fewer, for when the flesh is well chewed large quantities cause nausea.
  2. Milk digests best when it is rolled around in the mouth long enough to mix with saliva. To treat milk as a drink is a mistake, for it is a very nourishing food.
  3. All kinds of nuts must be well masticated. If they are not they cannot be well digested, for the digestive organs are unable to break down big pieces of the hard nut meals.
  4. The succulent vegetables contain considerable starch. If mastication is slighted they often ferment enough to produce considerable gas.
  5. Fruits are generally eaten too rapidly, and therefore often produce bad results. Even green fruits can be eaten with impunity if they are masticated thoroughly.
  6. Those who are fond of liquors taken in excess should sip their alcoholic beverage very slowly, tasting every drop before swallowing, and this will decrease their intake of liquor greatly.
  7. Water also should not be gulped down. Rather it should be taken slowly, especially on hot days. During hot weather, many people drink too much water. This tendency can usually be overcome by avoiding iced water and drinking the water slowly.

Who Needs Magnesium?

Well now, that’s a question isn’t it?

Until the other Sunday I would have said vaguely,
“Oh well, I suppose everyone, to a degree.”
Then that Sunday, I got up, had my breakfast and got ready for church. All the time having the uncomfortable feeling that I was going to keel over. -
What?
Weird, but what worried me, was that I had started feeling a little light-headed as well, dizzy, you know, as though my brain was swimming around inside my head, not knowing what to do with itself. Which I admit, had begun to feel just a little scary.
I think it came to a head though, when I took a walk looking for a church closer to my home, to which I could walk rather than taking the car. But that day, instead of going up the drive, noticing that the car park was full, I decided the service had probably already started so, not wanting to walk into a place where I didn’t know anyone, I headed back home. Instead of going inside, sitting down with a Panadol and a cuppa, I just collected the car keys and drove to my usual church. Also fairly new to me as I had only been living here for a few weeks.
Afterward, I went to lunch at a nearby café with some of my new friends, where I again started to have problems staying upright. On telling one of my companions, she told me of a relative of hers who had experienced something similar. As he is a farmer, it put him in mind of ‘The Staggers’, suffered by cattle when they’re lacking in magnesium. He told his doctor and was advised to try a Magnesium supplement.
Now, until a few weeks earlier, I had been taking a supplement that actually included magnesium, but I had run out of tablets. The main supplement in the tablets was turmeric not magnesium. At the time I just thought, oh well, I’ll get some more next fortnightly shop. Naturally enough, as this was just something I had bought because I thought it could be good for my health, it really wasn’t something I thought important. So I simply forgot next shop, telling myself when I remembered (after I got home of course), no worries, I’ll just get some next shop instead. Needless to say, I forgot then too. 

However, after my Sunday “episode” I made sure to buy some magnesium tablets and began taking them daily. Within a week I seemed to be back to normal, so again, forgot about the matter. Although I did keep taking the tablets.
Until I didn’t, ran out and thought to wait until next shop, well you know the saying, those who don’t remember their history, will keep getting the same results. A few days of nodding off when I sat in a comfortable chair even through the day, then the return of the head swimming issue, sent me off to the chemist pretty darn quick.
But - it also sent me to the computer and my second favourite occupation, in depth research. I quickly found that people may not actually need a magnesium supplement if they eat some servings of nuts, seeds, whole grains, beans, leafy veg, milk, yoghurt and fortified foods, which are all good sources of this item. Even water (tap, mineral, bottled) can provide it. Though unfortunately, many of us do not take all the foods that will help us, do we?
And for me the question that follows, is - WHY do we need it? -

Did you know that the Mayo Clinic reported that Magnesium supports muscle, nerve function and energy production, synthesises proteins, DNA and RNA. Like some antibiotics and Osteoporosis drugs. As well, antioxidant glutathione contributes to structural bone development and helps increase calcium absorption.
Also, that just 1 ounce of raw almonds contain 20% of your daily magnesium requirement. And who doesn’t like almonds? OK. I know there are some who don’t and even some who are allergic, but for many of us YUM.
Magnesium plays a role too, in our metabolism, cells use magnesium to transport calcium and potassium ions across the cell walls.
On the other hand, low levels of magnesium have been linked to Osteoporosis, anxiety, depression among other conditions, as well as ADHD.
Magnesium is sometimes recommended as a supplement to help treat people with high blood pressure, some chronic conditions, Diabetes, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Heavy drinking and Alcoholism have been shown to sometimes result in chronically low magnesium levels, as do conditions such as Crohn’s, and Celiac disease. Older adults (like me ) can be prone to having lower levels than young adults. Partly because the gut often becomes less efficient at absorbing magnesium while our kidneys can become less efficient at retaining magnesium. Plus, Type 2 Diabetes can cause the kidneys to excrete too much magnesium leading, (surprise, surprise) to a magnesium deficit.

Several long term studies have found a correlation between high magnesium levels and a lower risk of heart disease, sudden cardiac death and Ischemic heart disease, (National Institute of Health Office of Dietary Supplements). This also helps to prevent strokes. An analysis of 7 studies, including one of more than 200,000 people, found that an extra 100mls of magnesium daily, reduced stroke risk by 8% - (February 2012 review in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition). Very positive findings.

Side effects of the supplement can include
Nausea, cramps and diarrhea
Can interact with certain medicines, diuretics, heart medicines or antibiotics.
Patients with Diabetes, intestinal disease, heart disease or kidney disease should check with their doctor before commencing a course of treatment.
Overdose signs can include nausea, diarrhea, low blood pressure, muscle weakness and fatigue.
As with many medical remedies, very high doses can have dire effects.

There was so much more information revealed through my research, but all things considered, including the disappearance of the original symptoms I experienced from before I began taking my magnesium supplements, I truly believe, that keeping watch on one’s health after beginning a course of magnesium, providing one takes note of any adverse effects, is a good way of increasing the magnesium in the body and aiding health and fitness.

So, to my original question - Who Needs Magnesium? -
